2009 Tournament Info
Abbotsford Hawks Team
Abbotsford Minor Hockey is a "AAA" association which competes in the Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association’s highly competitive ten team, Tier One league covering the entire Lower Mainland of BC. The Hawks recently finished second overall in the Abbotsford Icebreaker tournament in October. PCAHA league play commences in mid November.
The Abbotsford Hawks got off to a strong start in league play, losing only one game after 4 weeks of games. The Hawks were rolling along with confidence when they were slowed by a rash of injuries. The Hawks were pressed into playing a long stretch of games with a third of the line-up out of commission. The Hawks finished the first half of league play with a record of 4-4-2 and are looking forward to the second half of league play as the team should be healthy and ready to make a run for the Provincial Championships. Christmas week, the Hawks competed at the NSWC, AAA tourney and won the championship going undefeated (7-0). The Hawks impressed with strong team play beating both NSWC and BWS in the round robin portion. The Hawks and BWC met again in the championship pulling away in the third period to earn a well deserved 7-3 victory.
The 2008/09 Abbotsford Peewee Tier 1 Hawk’s roster features seven players that played Peewee AAA in the previous year, as well as two first year players. The Hawks are expected to be one of the top teams in the province this year, characterized by excellent speed and team play. Individual and team development as athletes, students and ambassadors of our community will be supported by an experienced coaching staff which represents playing and coaching experience at all levels up to professional.
As a team focused on the goal of being "The Hardest Working Team" and "The Best Passing Team", this year’s team will demonstrate incredible team discipline on and off the ice. The Abbotsford Hawks are exactly the kind of top tier team that understands the privilege of playing in the Vernon Winter Carnival and its legacy as a premier Peewee AAA tournament. We look forward to the challenge and opportunity to compete with the other teams in this year’s tournament. Additionally the head coach of the Hawks is particularly excited about returning to Vernon to reclaim the title he won as a player in 1981.
