Cowichan Valley Capitals

The Island Log Homes Cowichan Valley Capital PeeWee Tier 1 team is excited to be invited back to the famous Vernon PeeWee hockey tournament

Cowichan has been very successful in previous years finishing first in this tournament four times including three times winning the “A” championship.  In addition, the have won the “B” championship once and have finished second a total of five times.  Three of this year’s four PeeWee coaches have played in the tournament.  Capitals head coach Daryl Nash played on the 1991 “B” final champions.  Assistant coach Brent Scyrup played in the 1990 “A” final losing a heartbreaking 6-5 overtime loss to Winnipeg.  While second assistant, Ricky Mann never played for a championship he is thrilled to be back coaching in a tournament he so enjoyed as a player.

The Capitals are hosting the Tier 1 PeeWee Provincial Championships March 7 – 12, 2010 in Duncan.  The tournament will be held at the “Big Stick” – the Island Savings Centre arena home to the world’s largest hockey stick and the BCHL’s Cowichan Capitals Jr. hockey team.

The PeeWee Capitals have already traveled to three tournaments and the Vernon tournament will serve as the last test before Vancouver Island playoffs and the Provincial championship.

This year’s PeeWee team is a young, developing team.  They return nine second year players and are bolstered by eight promising first year players.  The team is skillfully and enthusiastically coached by Nash, Scyrup, Mann and veteran Lee Winter.  The Capitals will provide stiff competition for everyone in Vernon and every team fortunate to qualify for the Provincial Championship in March.
